The maiden edition of the Nestle Nigeria Media Awards recently held in Lagos. The event established to honour journalists in various categories also showed the importance that the media plays in national development. It was also a moment for journalists to relax in an atmosphere of fun within the premises of Nestle office in Lagos. They also went home with goody bags courtesy the popular food and beverage brand.
Speaking with the journalists present at the event attended by African Times Magazine, the Head of Corporate Communications, Nestle Nigeria, Victoria Uwadoka established ‘This is the celebration of the work you have done this year. There is something about media. It is communication. It is about bridging the gap between different audiences. We play a focal role in changing social behaviours, economies, societies, peoples, and in building the future of our country. That is why it is important.’

On the activities and programs of Nestle Nigeria, she said: ‘As an organization, there are two things that are important to us – individuals and families, and building thriving communities.’

Some of the award winners expressed their appreciation to Nestle Nigeria. Mr. Bonny Amadi said: ‘I thank Nestle for making this possible for me and my colleagues. The best thing is to take opportunities like this. I am grateful to Nestle, the judges, and my colleagues.’ The winner in the youth empowerment/development category, Ijeoma Ibeh added: ‘I want to say thank you to Nestle for this opportunity and also to my colleagues that won in different categories. I pray that Nestle will grow higher and higher, strength to strength, and in the future, more journalists will win awards in different categories.’
Mr. Chris Onuoha who won many awards said: ‘I thank Nestle giving me this opportunity to showcase who I am. My biggest thanks goes to my platform, Vanguard Newspaper and also my feminine desk editor who created the platform for us to showcase who we are. The award is not only for me. It is for the whole company. I am overwhelmed. I am getting awards like this for the first time.’
