L-R: Commander, Intelligence Response Team (IRT), CP Tunji Disu with Board Member, Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), Dr. Ayo Ogunsan

The Board member of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), Dr. Ayo Ogunsan celebrated the Commander of Intelligence Response Team (IRT), Tunji Disu who is now ranked Commissioner of Police. He was previously on the DCP rank.
Hailing the police officer whom he described as a ‘savvy operational cop’, Dr. Ayo Ogunsan told Trek Africa Newspaper, ‘Olatunji Disu has displayed effectiveness in multiple fronts over the years. I recall his astute leadership of the Rapid Response Squad RRS in Lagos while led to that special team being called the Good Guys by Lagosians. This brand further brought confidence on the team.’

Disu is respected amongst Lagosians for the professionalism of the RRS. He led a pragmatic and revolutionary security ideology that brought about the training of officers on emotional intelligence, anger control management and de-escalation of crisis. His model of policing is largely predicated on the principle of ‘policing by consent’ with emphasis on the 4Es of engaging, educating, explaining and enforcing the law. The men are cordial and tactical in their delivery. During the EndSARS protests against police brutality in 2020, Disu reportedly released his Command’s ambulances to help protesters who need medical care.
Ogunsan continued: ‘What he is doing with the IGP-Intelligence Response Team (IRT) is highly commendable. This promotion rightly effected by the Police Service Commission goes to show that one good turn deserves another.’
‘I will only wish CP Olatunji Disu well on the responsibilities which will be saddled on him moving forward. I congratulate him and his family. I believe he will continue to enjoy the unalloyed support of his family and friends even as he demonstrates diligence on the job’, Ayo Ogunsan said.
It is noteworthy that CP Olatunji Disu holds two master’s degrees in Public Administration from Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba in 2010, and also in criminology, security, and legal psychology at the Lagos State University (LASU) in 2022.
The sporty policeman, Disu won the silver medal at the 33rd US Open Judo Championship in 2022 where he contested in the minus 100 kg category of the veteran division. Since becoming a judoka in 1986, Trek Africa Newspaper can report that CP Disu has won one gold medal at the National Sports Festival in 1990 in Bauchi, two gold medals at the Nigerian police games and a silver medal at the Armed Forces and Police Games. In November 2021, Disu won another gold medal at the first veteran championship organised by the Nigerian Police.
