Following the impressive performance of the Nigeria Police during the just concluded general elections in the country, the Coalition of Civil Society Organizations today decorated the IGP Usman Alkali Baba, NPM, fdc, NEAPS, CFR with the honour of the Grand Defender of Democracy Award. Being the lead agency saddled with internal security, IGP Baba was elated with the accolade.

Hailing the IGP Baba on the award, Board Member of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, LSSTF, Dr. Ayo Ogunsan said: ‘This is a well-deserved honour for the IGP and the Nigeria Police at large. Despite the attempts at inflaming the society, the men and officers were able to keep their calm and followed due diligence and professionalism throughout the polls. The officers and men were excellent and professional.’

‘I will appreciate and say thank you IGP Usman Alkali Baba for leading the Police towards a successful outing at the elections. You have done credibly in this 2023 general elections which is a defining moment.’

It is worthy to note that the Nigeria Police was the no. 1 security agency saddled with the responsibility of ensuring that the elections held under a peaceful and safe environment for all citizens. They worked with other security agencies such as the Nigeria Army, NSCDC, NDLEA, among others.
