Cocoa House Tragedy – 22-Year-Old Feranmi Akin-Akinye Laid to Rest in Ibadan

The remains of Feranmi Akin-Akinye, a 22-year-old graduate who tragically fell from the 26th floor of Cocoa House in Ibadan, Oyo State, have been interred.

Akin-Akinye, a graduate of Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti (ABUAD), was undergoing cybersecurity training with a firm operating on the eighth floor of the historic skyscraper when the incident occurred.

According to a reliable but anonymous source, Akin-Akinye lived with his mother in Meridian, Apata area of Ibadan, while his father resides in the United States.

The source alleged that the deceased was instructed by his company to install a large banner atop the building—a task typically designated for trained professionals equipped with safety gear.

“I hold the company responsible,” the source said. “He was a respectful and humble young man from a decent home. They sent him to do something he wasn’t trained for, and he complied out of humility.”

The company is also being accused of attempting to suppress the incident. The source claimed Akin-Akinye was taken to a hospital’s emergency unit despite already being deceased, and that his mother was not informed promptly.

Further allegations include that the company barred media personnel from photographing the scene and immediately covered his body.

Akin-Akinye was laid to rest on Tuesday by his church, Winners Chapel. His father’s relatives are reportedly exploring legal options against the company for alleged corporate negligence.
