KANO STATE POLICE COMMAND CONTINUE WITH ROBUST SECURITY SENSITIZATION AT SHEKA AND NEIGHBORING AREAS
… As CP Dogo Directs Continued Community Engagements with Stakeholders; Calls on Residents to Continue to Cooperate with the Police and Other Security Agencies
On 5th February, 2025, the Kano State Police Command organized a security sensitization meeting at Sheka Quarters, Kano. The meeting aimed to address the recent reports of thuggery (Daba) activities at Sheka Quarters, and neighboring areas. It emphasized that security is a collective responsibility requiring the support and cooperation of all and to bring the Police closer to the community.
2. The meeting drew frontline security stakeholders, including Traditional Rulers, Ward Heads that are closer to the community, Members of Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Special Constabulary, Vigilante Groups, and other Community Policing Stakeholders around Sheka, Ja’oji, Shagari Quarters, Tukuntawa, Sharada, Hausawa, and neighboring areas.
3. The Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Salman Dogo Garba, ably represented by ACP Yusha’u Mas’ud, Area Commander of Tarauni Area Command, thanked the stakeholders for attending the meeting. He emphasized that the issue of security is a collective responsibility that requires the support and cooperation of all. He calls on them to assist the Police in giving useful information about the arrow heads of criminal activities in the areas. Others present in the meeting are; Representative of District Head of Tarauni, Alhaji Buhari Ado, Village Head of Shekar Maidaki, Mallam Badamasi Abdulkadir, the Village Head of Sheka, Alhaji Abubakar Musa Zakari, Professor Garba Ibrahim Sheka, Vigilante Group Zonal Commander, Alhaji Mamuda Isah, Divisional Police Officers under Tarauni Area Command, Officers in Charge of Anti-Daba and Rapid Response Team (RRT), Ward Heads, religious leaders, among others.
4. Issues discussed included:
– Security Roles: Roles of Traditional Rulers, Members of Special Constabulary, Vigilante Group of Nigeria, and Community Policing Stakeholders in tackling the menace of thuggery (Daba)
– Information Sharing: Sharing information with the Police and other security agencies
– Reporting Suspicious Activities: Channels of reporting suspicious persons and activities
– Community Engagement: Continuous community engagement for peace sustenance in the area.
5. The Commissioner of Police directed all Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) to continue stakeholders’ meetings and clearance operations to ensure no breakdown of law and order. He urged residents not to panic as the Command has beamed the searchlight to any likely emerging security threat and is committed to ensuring safety.
6. The CP reiterated the Police Command’s commitment to ensuring everyone’s safety in the State. Noting the drastic reduction in crimes in Kano State, he urged the public to continue cooperating with the Police by providing valuable intelligence and support.
