Societal Concerns Organization To Hosts Women’s Mental Health Workshop April 29–30
Women’s Mental Health Workshop to Promote Awareness and Solutions for Emotional Well-being.
The Societal Concerns Organization has announced a two-day Women’s Mental Health Workshop to raise awareness and provide practical solutions for women’s mental well-being.
The event, themed “Invest in Women’s Mind: Prioritizing Mental Health for Progress,” will take place on April 29–30, 2025, as part of activities marking International Women’s Day (IWD) 2025.
During a live interview on NTA 10’s Sunday Show Live, Amb. Oluwayomi Oluwapelumi, a representative of the Societal Concerns Organization, emphasized the need to prioritize women’s mental health for overall societal progress.
“Women play pivotal roles in shaping families, communities, and economies. When their mental health is compromised, the ripple effect is felt across society,” Amb. Oluwapelumi stated. “This workshop is not just about raising awareness; it’s about creating a safe space for women to speak up, share their struggles, and access practical solutions.”
Key Highlights of the Event:
Expert-Led Discussions: Panel sessions on stress management, emotional resilience, and mental health advocacy
Interactive Sessions: Open conversations to break mental health stigma and encourage awareness
Self-Care Workshops: Practical guidance on mindfulness, coping mechanisms, and self-care techniques
Counseling Booths: One-on-one consultations with certified mental health professionals
Renowned Mental Health Experts to Speak
Prominent professionals, including Dr. Amina Yusuf, a clinical psychologist, and Dr. Femi Adewale, a psychiatrist and mental health advocate, will be among the key speakers.
Dr. Amina Yusuf emphasized the critical need for mental health services tailored to women:
“Mental health is central to women’s empowerment. Without addressing the silent battles women fight daily — from anxiety to depression — we cannot achieve true gender equality. This workshop is a much-needed step in the right direction.”
Similarly, Dr. Femi Adewale linked mental health to economic progress, stating:
“A mentally healthy workforce means a more productive society. Investing in women’s mental well-being strengthens families, workplaces, and the economy at large.”
Who Can Participate?
The Societal Concerns Organization encourages women, youth leaders, healthcare professionals, and civil society groups to attend the workshop.
Registration Details:
Interested participants can register via the organization’s official website or social media platforms.
Early registration is advised due to limited slots.
Virtual participation options will be available for those unable to attend physically.
Call for Collective Action
Amb. Oluwapelumi urged all stakeholders to support the initiative, highlighting the importance of addressing the mental health crisis collectively:
“We must move beyond silence and shame. Investing in women’s mental health means investing in the future of our society.”
As the world observes International Women’s Day 2025, this workshop serves as a powerful reminder that mental health care is not a luxury but a necessity for progress and gender equality.

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has reiterated his willingness to re-present the 2025 budget to the State House of Assembly once lawmakers are ready to receive it.
The governor made this declaration on Wednesday while addressing residents of Khana Local Government Area during the commissioning of health facilities.
His statement followed an incident where he was denied access to the Assembly quarters.
Expressing his dissatisfaction over the situation, Fubara emphasized that he had duly informed Speaker Martins Amaewhule about his planned visit.
“I still believe, maybe, they might be instructed later. If they are instructed, I’m still ready to come any day to get this particular issue sorted out,” Fubara stated.
Governor Locked Out of Assembly Quarters
Earlier in the day, Governor Fubara and top government officials, including Secretary to the State Government, Tammy Danagogo, and Chief of Staff, Edison Ehie, were prevented from entering the official quarters of the Rivers State House of Assembly on Aba Road, Port Harcourt.
The premises have been serving as the venue for legislative sittings by lawmakers loyal to former Governor Nyesom Wike.
Upon arrival, they encountered a locked gate, blocking their entry.
Speaking to journalists at the scene, Fubara accused Speaker Martins Amaewhule of deliberately avoiding him, revealing that his repeated calls to the lawmaker went unanswered.

The Anambra State Government has clarified the misconceptions surrounding Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo’s recent interaction with an itinerant preacher at Onitsha Market. Contrary to claims, the governor’s remarks were about enforcing the state’s noise pollution law, not banning evangelism.
Addressing the issue on Tuesday, Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, emphasized that Governor Soludo was referring to the Public Health Law 2006, which prohibits excessive noise and public preaching in non-designated areas like markets.
The governor advised preachers to conduct their activities in churches or designated spaces to prevent disruptions.
“The issue at hand is noise pollution, not evangelism. Noise pollution is punishable under Sections 8(1,4b) and 9(1,2) of the Public Health Laws of Anambra State, 2006. As a matter of precedence, a magistrate court in Nnewi made this law actionable against a church in 2019,” Mefor explained. (Link: https://search.app/xBiq2v7wDBUwvTmE8).
The state government urges the public to disregard misinformation suggesting that evangelism or public preaching has been banned in Anambra.
Instead, residents are encouraged to comply with the Public Health Law and respect others’ right to a peaceful environment.
